Student Membership 2

Hey all, I just wanted to let everyone know that I have bought my siggraph student membership with no problems. So part-time students like me are A-O-K. :)

Tutoring Details — we now have webututor.com

I layed out a possible example of rates and rules below. We will want to design a simple sight to allow customers to contact us, request services and promote services.

Our rates are extremely cheap, because of this I question giving discount rates at all, but a discount of 10% per student up to 30% may be appropriate. We can’t really afford to have very deep discounts because we are priced so low already.

1 student $20
2 students $36 (18×2)
3 students $48 (16X3) $64 (16X4) $80 (16X5)

Agenda/syllabi available with a prepayment of at least 5 sessions.

** Pricing assumes students are within our normal coverage area, which is 20 miles from our headquarters at 470 East Lockwood Ave ST. Louis, MO 63119-3194, as shown by Google directions. If you are outside of this area, we will try and accommodate you, but we may need to raise our rates to cover tutor transportation costs and additional time.

A couple of examples–

1 student………………$45 per instructional hour
2 students……………..$35 per instructional hour
3 or 4 students………..$25 per instructional hour
5 or 6 students………..$20 per instructional hour

Bud.tv Opportunity

I have spoken briefly about a possible opportunity to work with AB on bud.tv. Particularly to create content via our showcase or Rube Goldberg contest.

An article from Advertising Age a couple of days ago outlines the issue and opportunities here. It is failing, they need content, they have spent 30-40 MILLION $$$$$$$$ to get this to work. The article — HERE

Turn in your fees of $20 by next week!!!   Give them to Jeremy if you see him, or send him an e-mail, give him a call.  Next wee at the latest though!

Discussion on membership fee discrepancy, dumping into either a fundraiser account, or into a separate group checking account.

Joel briefed us on last years SIGGRAPH conference.  See links on the forum webugraph.com

Class evaluations are coming up.  Write all your lab complaints (computer programs, hardware issues, etc) on your so your concerns go straight to the Dean.

Zach needs help for the video game tournament on Saturday, e-mail or call him if you can help set up or tear down.

Senior Overviews are the last Friday of classes.  Come out and support the seniors.

Events and 1st Year Activity
   - Animation showcase: (Jen S) If you’d like to be on the committee please give her a call or email, we need to start gathering material!
PLEASE CONTRIBUTE!!!
Give Jen all entries;
     -   Posters and Creative Advertising?
     -   Ideas?
   - Guest Speakers:  Trying to get one by the end of the semester!  Watch forum for updates.

   - Rube Goldberg contest:  No details yet, but you can start planning your Rube Goldberg now.

   - Model Sverdrup:  (Jared) We need 3D modelers to help build a digital example of what our department should be, including all of the technology on our wish list.  If you are interested in modeling computers, furniture, ANYTHING contact an officer or post it on the forum.  Too, compile your own wish list for what YOU would like to see in Sverdrup 2.0

Ideas for fundraising – For freelancing, the wage split we decided on was 60/40, 60 going to you and 40 going to the club.
     -   Who is willing to be a tutor?  A teacher?
     -   Anyone willing to do web design for money?

We are looking into other non-profit work and networking with other groups.

Procrastination

So…for the outside chance that I might be going to San Diego with everyone, I was encouraged to find that I could still go if I didn’t get the money in before June 29.  I’m sure that problems will ensue  ( not getting the same flight, hotel, or anything as the rest of the group, plus the chaos of not getting registered early and ticket prices being more expensive later) but it’s encouraging none the less!

For others interested, I found this on the website:

On or before June 29 = $345

On or before July 25 = $400

At SIGGRAPH          = $450

Andrea

Speakers?

So i tried to contact Mr. Steinmeyer and.. well, he’s not coming.  So i was wondering if anyone else had ideas for a speaker before the end of the year? Anyone attainable?

Thanks,

Leah
