Hotels

Ok here is an email I got from my mom. Turns out that most of the hotels are already sold out so she reserved 4 rooms at Comfort Inn, to make sure we got somewhere to sleep.

————————————–

Here is the hotel that I am holding four rooms at because they only 9
left. The rate is $143 per night x 6 nights = $858 / 3 people = $286.00
per person. This is one of the only hotels that includes breakfast.

There is one concern I have and that is the room doors are all outside
rooms. There is another Comfort Inn in the area that also have
breakfast that have the room doors inside after walking by a lobby area
and would be $149.00 per night x 6 nights = $894 / 3 people = 298.00 per
person. This is only $12.00 more per person.

Let me know what you like better. I would like to change it if you like
the look of the hotel better.

I have attached the first hotel and will send the second hotel soon.

PS We need to book out air now or we are not going to get seats on the
plane. We can’t book these will everyone else and we may not be on the
same flights.

The message is ready to be sent with the following file or link

She booked the rooms through Siggraph by calling the 1800 number. She said that was the best we could get because of the free bus passes. If this is the hotel we want to use she just needs to call up to replace her credit information with ours.

thats fine with me, but im gonna wait for craig and matt to say the same. but if its the only open one as of now, i guess we don’t have a lot of choise

  2. cagednerdx says:

Thank you very much for looking into this, Michele. And thank your mom for us, this was very kind of her to do.

Are these for sure the only hotels left at all? Was the 500 West hotel that we were looking at completely unavailable? I’m just surprised, when they say they guarantee rooms through Siggraph until July. I wonder if the registration process is different through mail than it is over the phone. It’s certainly something to look into.

Oh, we also need to keep in mind tax on these hotels. I think the Siggraph information said there was something like a 10% tax on hotel stays, so we should probably formulate that in.

  3. jameson9101322 says:

Carol, her mom was looking at non-SIGGRAPH affiliated hotels. The 500 is probably totally blocked out for SIGGRAPH and when booking lodging through the website there will be rooms in the 500, because those SIGGRAPH rooms are being kept from the public.

I dont remember the specs. Are the Comfort Inns less expensive than 500? Because if they are I say go for it but if they are not then we should get on ordering.

  4. sanjin2 says:

as much as i can remember, the 500 is around 79-99 for three people i dont remember exactly. but it is cheaper.

  5. cagednerdx says:

The 500 was between $60 and $80 a night. Per room. Per night. Divided by three is CHEAP. Ain’t nothing cheaper than sharing bathrooms, european style.

  6. jameson9101322 says:

My vote is still for the 500, but we’re going to have to get on that boat QUICK because I’m sure everyone else is realizing how cheap it is too

  7. Kainosa says:

These are Siggraph hotels, she actually called the Siggraph number. The cheapest hotels and the marriot next store are already completely sold out, even the Siggraph reserved rooms. These are the cheapest ones left with a breakfast, which my mom says will end up saving us money by having one.

  8. jameson9101322 says:

Oh, I’m sorry, I didnt realize she’d actually called the numbers, my bad.

I plan on bringing breakfasts so having a breakfast is not a big deal for me. Still everyone else needs to think of these things too. We REALLY need to make a decision. I’m starting to feel the anxiety

  9. cagednerdx says:

Yeah, I don’t usually eat breakfast either, I’m really more of a cup-of-coffee-and-ready-to-go kind of girl. But we can do these if you guys prefer.

Sadness about the 500, by the way. It was so cute!

  10. sanjin2 says:

awww, no european style….how will i sleep. j/k…so by the end of wednesday’s meeting we should have our tickets and rooms booked, so people dont get seizures?!

  11. jameson9101322 says:

I’ll second that most definitely. Oh please!

  12. jeng says:

i’m kind of at a loss here. i’m about 60% sure that i want to go to this siggraph, but if you guys are going to have meetings about these things you need to post a DATE not a DAY of the week. i’m coming from across the bridge of I-70 and i’m not familiar with the st. louis area, much less know what “old webster” even means. i do have some quick questions first before we meet and if i do decide to go.

    1. i realize the starting date is on the 4th and ends on the 9th. i need to know: how long we’re staying for?

    2. i’m not sure what the replys are refering to and you’ve probably already answered it but: are we sharing rooms? and if we are would anyone share with me?

    3. i’ve never had to pay for a conference/convention directly before, so i don’t know where to begin. i’ve tried looking at the site of the siggraph conference, but it was confusing to me. maybe this means i’m not destined to go to this thing. *shrugs* to be perfectly honest, i’m not sure how to go about this. i’ve only been on a plane once in my entire 24 years of life and my parents had booked it.

    4. who’s going so far (besides joel, jen, carol, jared, matt, and craig)?

    5. how much is the ticket? (the site wasn’t very helpful to me, unless i’m looking in the wrong place)

    6. you guys make it sound like we’re not sharing the same hotel (that is a bad idea if you ask me). are we sharing the same hotel?

    7. from what i understand is that there is no hotel rooms open in the hotel of the siggraph and surrounding hotels, so how are we going to transport ourselves from one hotel to the hotel the siggraph is being held?

    8. is the total cost of this siggraph still around $1600? or did that change?

ps: i’m not familiar with the whole blog concept, it took me ten minutes just to figure out how to post something. i know. i don’t get out much.

i’ve also told my parents about this blog and what you guys have been saying, and my dad believes that it’s disorganized. that’s his opinion and i haven’t heard much about (and from) these meetings either, but i think he may have been right and we may have been told about this siggraph too late and we probably could have been a little more prepared. (my opinion only, but i still think it would be fun to go)

(this whole missing the meetings and replys thing is my fault because during the summer, i’m hardly on the internet because i’m tired when i come home from work and don’t want to do anything but watch tv. i only check my email if i’m expecting a reply…so i’ll be checking the webugraph site every morning from now on before i go to work.)

SORRY FOR THE LONG REPLY :-P

  13. CraigStrubing says:

Does anyone have Matt’s contact info. It’s not on the list. I emailed him on facebook, but I dont know how often he checks that.

    Craig

  14. sanjin2 says:

i dont, just making sure, meetings at 7 tomorrow?

  15. Lange Jared says:

I have his cell number. Shoot me an email or call me if you still need it.

  16. jameson9101322 says:

I have his email too. We can give it to you tomorrow at 7 (Yes it is at 7) We’re making a final decision tomorrow on lodging and planes… we can’t afford to wait any longer unless you all want to split my medical bills for this bleeding ulcer I’m developing.

    And Jen

We’ve been talking about SIGGRAPH the conference since day1. We’ve been meeting since mid May specifically for the conference. To physically get into the conference itself, the cost is about 400 bucks if you become a student member of ACM which is a 25 dollar fee. Otherwise its much more expensive.

We all want to get into the same hotel. SIGGRAPH allows for 3 to a room so that is what we’re planning. I think Michele still needs roommates to fill up her 3. We have to talk to each other though, that’s why we’re having meetings.

We all want to get on the same plane, that’s why we’re having a meetings.

Meeting is tomorrow. Wednesday. May 23. At 7pm. In 202. If you’re coming to the conference and want to organize with us I suggest you come so you can get your name on a form. Otherwise you’re still welcome to come, you’re just going to have to get the information off of the SIGGRAPH CONFERENCE tab here on the msgboard where we’ll post our final decision after tomorrow.

The conference itself is the 4th to the 11th. We’ll be flying in on the 4th and flying out on the 12. If I got those figures wrong, please someone say something.

The cost is sill 1600, but that’s damage control. The more people share a room the cheaper. The less you eat the cheaper. The sooner we book a flight and a hotel the cheaper. The less you buy at the conference the cheaper. Its still 400 to get in, 400 or so to fly, 600 (guess) or so to lodge and eat. So its not going to be a 400 dollar trip, its expensive, but according to Joel and other conference attendees its worth it. Its just a sacrifice if you’re planning to pay your own way.

Good luck with all that. If you have any other questions… meeting is tomorrow. Or you have our numbers here on the site. My email in particular is jameson9101322@gmail.com. We need to get all the conference stuff nailed down asap.

I’ll see everyone tomorrow! I’m starting my internship so think of me in the morning! And think of Joel, who is in detroit right now, but he’s traveling and sleeping seperate to us because of school funding stuff so no worries about his plans. He still might make it on the flight with us though.

  17. sanjin2 says:

the site says it goes from the 5th to the 9th. so we’ll be flying back on the 10th

  18. jameson9101322 says:

Thank you Sanjin… I guess I got that way wrong. i’ve been thinking the 4th to the 11th for a long time.. I wonder where I got that?

  19. Kainosa says:

I hope its ok with everyone but my mother is going to stop by the meeting tonight to discuss the hotels and what she found out. Apparently when she talked to the siggraph people she found out these are the 2 cheapest hotels left, with or without breakfast. She has some rooms reserved at both so they wouldnt sell out before the meeting.

  20. LeahB29 says:

    Hey,
just a reminder, just sign me up for whatever everyone else is doing!! Can’t wait to get home and leave again with you all!! :)
    Chow!
    Leah

  21. CraigStrubing says:

hey everyone, I called matt told him about our plans. Flights, hotels, E theater time, and the harbor tour. He said he’d give us a call later when gets all his stuff got.

    Craig

  22. jameson9101322 says:

    Sounds great.

And worry not, Leah. Your hotel, at the very least, is taken care of ^^

  23. Jen Stolzer says:

Just letting everyone know that I’m okay with my flight. I’m on Southwest leaving at 8:10 and arriving at 12:15. I stop twice but have no layovers and I dont have to change planes so that’s nice. Just giving everyone an update

  24. Jen Stolzer says:

Any news on that hotel stuff Michele? ASAP

  25. Kainosa says:

My mom still hasn’t heard back from the Mariott people so that looks like a no go. We are going to stay in the comfort in. Also, she is working on either 1/2 price tickets or free tickets for something for us being either a harbor cruise, zoo, sea world, or soemthing of that sort.

  26. Jen Stolzer says:

Thanks Michele, that takes a load off my stomach. We’ll just plan for the Comfort Inn and pay eachother accordingly.

And I think I speak for everyone when I pull for the harbor cruise and not the zoo or sea world. I don’t want to spend TOO much time away from the conference, and a harbor cruise would be a great way to tour the city.

  27. Jen Stolzer says:

Michele…. I have some questions about the hotel thing and I have no way of contacting you so I’m doing it like this.

We are in the Comfort Inn, yes? Is your mother doing the paperwork for us? The SIGGRAPH hotel request forms and etc? She has all of our information yes? We would really like to get that okayed, and if the paperwork needs to be filled out, that’s something we can do.

  28. Kainosa says:

I believe she has all the information she needs. Yes, we are definately in the comfort in. She hasnt asked for any more info. All shes been asking about is possible sight seeing type things you guys want to do. Zoo? Harbor Cruise? Sea World? If anyone has any thoughts on that let me know. Also, Jen to contact me directly my email is munortapotcepxe@munortapotcepxe.com
