Siggraph 08

This is for everyone who is organizing their own travel arrangements.

I just received an email from SIGGRAPH stating that they changed the conference dates:

SIGGRAPH 2008 is Monday - Friday, not Sunday - Thursday. This schedule change maximizes your travel time so that your weekend is free to spend time with family or friends or to enjoy all of the Los Angeles attractions.

I just want to make sure everyone has the correct airfare tickets and hotel reservations. I will mention this change this Sunday at the meeting as well.

I’d be happy to forward the email to anyone who would like. I believe you get signed up for the mailing list by becoming an ACM member, but if not visit http://www.siggraph.org/s2008/maillist/ to sign up for the list.

SIGGRAPH BBQ Sat. April 26 @ Joels

Hey all!!

Just a reminder the Spring BBQ is at my place this weekend.

There is another post about what I am providing and what (if anything) people are bringing.

Bring a friend and something to eat/drink/share (if you want).

OK to come without bringing anything too!

All Websterites welcome. We will be starting things at about 3pm, eats at 5:30ish.

My phone is 314-962-6525

BTW We have set up so that we can accomodate the weather if everything has to be inside.

Also, if anyone wants to hook up a second Xbox or Wii bring one along. We have 5 locations set up for video gaming around the house (3 open if someone brings systems)

I am at 571 W. Lockwood Ave. just a few blocks from campus. My house is between Jackson and Algonquin on Lockwood just down the street from Bread Co., Straubs, SanSai…

Results and Reminders

Hello everyone. Hope you all had a great weekend.

Just in case you were not able to attend the meeting this past Thursday, I thought it would be a good idea to post the results.

Here are your new officers for the 2008-2009 year:

President - Leah Bend

Vice President - Ben Triola

Secretary - Michele Narup

Treasurer - Amanda Walker

Schwagmeister - Shanese Williams

Webmeister - Tim Latham

On the reminders side this weekend is going to be busy. Saturday is the BBQ at Joel’s, which I hope to see everyone at. Also, I would like to remind everyone who is interested in SIGGRAPH 08 in LA and is not making other plans that we are having a meeting this Sunday at 5:00pm in 202.

Have a good rest of the week!

-Michele

Whachu Brangin’?

Hey guys, leave a comment on this post with what you plan on bringing to the BBQ on the 26th, along the lines of gaming consoles and whatnot. If you plan on bringing food, you can share that too, so that there aren’t like 15 bowls of macaroni salad or something.

I’m planning on bringing my 360 with Rock Band, Guitar Hero, and Halo3. I also have the Orange Box if anyone else wants to bring a copy to play Team Fortress 2.. I haven’t gotten to play yet :[  BTW, no fosho promises on Rock Band since it’s so bulky, in case something comes up and I can’t bring it, but that’s the plan for now anyway. And I only have 3 controllers (if I can find them all), so if other people want to bring spares, that’s cool.. I think one of my controllers might be broken.

I can bring wiimotes and games (Rayman, Wario Ware, Wii Play) if someone wants to bring a Wii, but I don’t want to pack more than one console at a time.

Ryan Wells for President…?

Hello everyone,

I would like to announce that I am running for president.

And now I would like to announce my resignation from office. I am leaving Leah in place of my duty. I resign with pride, dignity, and a left testicle.

Thank you,

Ryan Wells

Hi Everyone, I’d like to state my intention to run for Vice President of the Webster SIGGRAPH organization.  I’ve been an active member of the group since it’s inception, and I want to do my part to keep it going in the positive direction it has been. I think we’ve only scratched the surface on what we can do as far as bringing in speakers, demonstrations, and activities. I also want to focus on getting more people involved. There are students out there that need to know about us, we need to find them.

I feel I’m qualified for this position for a number of reasons. I am already involved with the inner workings of the club as well as Kinematifest; from contacting sponsors to attending decision making meetings. Next year I hope to help take Kinematifest to the next level. I recently presented with Joel on a discussion panel during the AES summit. I would like to plan similar activities for next years festival, and give it a “summit” feel, where students and professionals can freely exchange ideas.

I also feel I’m qualified because of my diverse media background. I currently work for a company called Service My Way, where I do everything from web and print design to creating marketing plans, and running booths at trade shows. I also do work for iClips from time to time, doing various design work. In the past I ran my own business, doing printing and computer repair. During that time I also freelanced, doing 3D modeling and animation as an independent contractor.  Aside from my work, I’m a video game collector/historian. I used to run the Video Game Design Club, and currently I’m working on a zombie game with some other webster students.

I bring all this up becaue I feel that if elected, I will fairly represent all facets of interactive media. Our industry is incredibly diverse, and it’s important that our SIGGRAPH chapter represents that.

Elections

Hello everyone,

I’m very interested in running for Secretary and Treasurer for next year.

I think I’m qualified for this because I’ve been attending the SIGGRAPH meetings on a regular basis and try to keep others coming as well. I am a part of the staff for Kinematifest and I also held many management positions in high school for theatre and was a leader in other school groups as well.

I love our amazing program and would do everything in my power to help our SIGGRAPH family to continue to grow and be the awesome program it is. I want to help in any way possible.

Thank you for your consideration,

Amanda Walker
