Next meeting, first official one of the year, is tomorrow Thursday the 30th in room 202 at 9:30 pm. Were not sure how long it will last, but expect anywhere around an hour, maybe a little bit longer.

We will have a meeting to discuss the Lead Animator and INTM Technician schedules as well as a brief SIGGRAPH officers meeting tonight in 202 at 9:30.
Everyone interested in (and capable of) the roles of either Lead Animator or INTM Technician drop in tonight and we will sort out the details of those positions.
SIGGRAPH officers — we want to plan out our first meeting and early semester activities.

Today me and Leah stopped by the dean’s office to talk about Siggraph stuff, and basically were having a booth at this Friday’s School of Communications orientation. We gotta plan stuff to do to advertise ourselves. So if anybody’s got ideas just post, but we should all meet up sometime in the next couple days for a little bit, or whoever wants to participate. Tomorrow me and Leah are going to talk to Joel about it some more and see what we can pull off in three days time, so I’ll keep you posted on what happens tomorrow.

Well, its the day after the Showcase. It was a bumpy ride, but our first annual SIGGRAPH Showcase is behind us. It was a bumpy road, but we pulled it off… to a point anyway ^^
I’d like to thank everyone who contributed their projects to the show. I apologize if your stuff didn’t make it in, there was a thirty minute section that was being stubborn. I want to thank you all for being patient with the delays and I’d especially like to thank our MC, who filled time expertly (I’m sorry again Joel) and my hardworking team of compilation artists. We’ve got a lot to be proud of, and matching ulcers. Anyone up to doing it again next year?
So again, thanks everyone for showing up to the show, contributing to its content and compiling its media. And boy am I glad it’s summertime.

The Showcase is fast approaching. We’ve gathered materials, we’ve amassed a fortune of media excellence, we’ve poked, prodded and annoyed anyone who will listen to us. We’ve spoken about ourselves in the third person. And we continue to do so. But now we ask more…
Anyone interested in helping put this project together… finding and syncing music, making video slideshows, helping pick the order of things… All volunteers are welcome. i’ll be in the lab on Wednesday from 2 to 530. Anyone who wants to help out can show up or email me or whatever. I’ll take any help I can. i’m going to need to sequence it all and find music for the silent parts and blend that music with the music existing on the musiked ones, put labels on every piece music-video-style and burn it to DVD.
And I’m still accepting stuff so if you’ve got things to give me you know where to find me too ^^

I was looking on siggraph.org & it says that student membership is only for “full-time” students. You only get the student price for the conference if your a student member. I’m only a half-time student, is there a way around this? Or is siggraph omitting some info I’m not seeing? Ideas?

Ok so as you all know RHA/Campus Activities is throwing a video game tournament this saturday April 14th from 7:30pm-1:30am. As I said at the last few meetings.
I’m writing this to see if anyone one in the SIGGRAPH group would be willing to help set-up/tear-down the event. This would entail helping us haul the equipment up the Mareltto’s, setting everything up, and possibly tearing everything down. How its gonna work is as soon as Marletto’s closes on Saturday, around 6:30pm, we will get into Marletto’s and start moving everything and setting everything up as fast as possible. Since we only have an hour we need as much help as possible.
If you are worried that you will not be able to play in the tournaments because you are helping out, don’t be. If you help out you can still play.
If anyone is interested in helping out, and please we need all the help we can get, or if you have any questions, just shoot me an email over to zmuh11@aol.com
I would greatly appreciate any help anyone can give me,
Thanks
Zach Haugen

First of all, thank you guys for the awesome attendance to the last meeting - as you all may have noticed, in just two meetings, we’ve already grown out of comfortable seating capacity for 202. Don’t let that stop you from inviting more people, however, because we’ll soon be finding a new, more commodious location at which to host our meetings. The next meeting will be at the same time in the same place (10PM Wednesday, Sverdrup 202) for consistency’s sake, but don’t be surprised if we migrate the following week.
A reminder to everyone interested in membership, including those who are unable to attend the meetings on a regular basis, we will start collecting the agreed $20 semesterly membership fee as of the next meeting. The group at the last meeting was in concurrence that it is still appropriate to pay this semester’s fee in spite of our late start, simply to help the group get on its feet for the rest of the semester as well as the summer, during which time we are hoping to really get a lot done. The collective fees are very important, so please get that to one of the officers (preferably Jeremy, our new treasurer) as soon as you can. Thank you all for your cooperation with this - every bit helps.
On another note, we are still very interested in putting on an interactive media and animation showcase by the end of the semester. In other words, start thinking about things you’d like to submit, because we want to show off as diverse of a group as possible and really get our talents seen. We’ll start working out details for this in the coming weeks, but please do begin to at least consider the submission of your personal or school projects or shorts. The more content we have, the more likely we are to get this thing to happen. Also, don’t forget about the Rube Goldberg contest - it’s never too soon to start working on it!
A note to all 3D artists, as Joel mentioned in the previous post, we need to find volunteers to model the new animation department exactly how we need it. We’ve had a few people interested in working on the project (which is FANTASTIC, thank you guys!), but the more people we have working on it, the faster it will go. The faster it goes, the sooner we’ll be able to start actually getting the equipment in there. If that’s not motivation enough, I don’t know what is.
Thanks again, everyone! I look forward to seeing all of you again (and hopefully more.. bring friends!) on Wednesday.
-Carol
